Pittsburg Firemen Poorly Paid. At Pittsburg, Pa., Chief Engineer Miles S. Humphreys and his nine assistants have petitioned each member of councils, individually, asking that their salaries be placed on an equal footing with those of the chiefs of first-class cities. They ask that the salary of the chief engineer be raised from $3,000 to $4,000, that the deputy chief engineer’s be fixed at $3,000, instead of $2,500; and that each assistant or division chief receive $2,300 each, instead of $1,800.
