Nott Engines at Norfolk. On December 28 last a second-size Nott Universal, counter-balanced fire engine was delivered to Norfolk, Va., by D. A. Woodhouse, Eastern agent of the Nott Fire Engine company. The illustration shows the engine throwing a 1 1/2-in. stream through a 2-way Siamese connection a vertical distance of over 180 ft. Each of the two lines of hose of 2½-⅛. diameter and ISO ft. each long. It will be seen that the stream is a very powerful one and solid for the greater part of the distance required for effective firefighting. On the 11th of this month, or two weeks after this test, and upon the satisl’actoi v report of those appointed to conduct it, an order for another Nott engine of the same type was given, with instructions that it be delivered as soon as possible.
