PUMPING ENGINE NOTES At Lamont, Ill., a contract has been let to the Platt Iron works for supplying pumps and motors at $2,042. A local paper of Kankakee, Ill., says that the people of Kankakee “ought to be among the cleanest on the earth. The water company is pumping 2,000,000 gal. of water daily—about 111 gal.— nearly 4 bbls.—for every man, woman and child in the city.” General Manager Freshcy, board of public works, at Grand Rapids, Mich., is investigating every variety of pump which might be used in that city, llis report will be thorough and will deal with the various pumps as suited to the conditions there. Turbine pumps will lie included, although up-to-date turbines have not been strong with the members of the board.
