January Fire Loss. During last January the fire loss amounted to $22,735. There were 370 fires, at which the loss was $10,000 or more—classified as follows: $10,000 to $20,000, 147; $20,000 to $30,000, 60; $30,000 to $50,000, 40; $50,000 to $75,000, 46; $75,000 to $100,000, 27; $100,000 to $200,000, 32; $200,000 and over, 18. Fires at which the loss was $250,000 upwards numbered eleven, as follows: Boston, Mass., automobile warehouse and repair plant, $750,000; New York city, wholesale grocery plant and other, $680,000; North Chelmsford, Mass., worsted mills; Toledo, Ohio, business block; Galveston, Tex., wharf and cotton, $500,000 each; St. Paul, Minn., business block, $472,000; Chicago, 111., wool warehouse, $456,000; Bellington, Wash., shingle mill, $415,000; Skowhegan, Me., three business blocks, $400,000; Chicago, Ill., clubhouse and art galleries, $325,000; Springfield, Mo., hotel and theatre. $250,000.
