Kanawha Engine Test. Last week a Kanawha chemical engine was tested at Wilmington. N. C., and proved a success. C. R. Ravnes had charge of the test, on behalf of the Kanawha Chemical Engine Manufacturing company, and the chemical engine belonging to the city was operated by Fireman John T. Yates, under the direction of Chief Schnibben. The test consisted in extinguishing tire in two small buildings fitted with excelsior and other inflammable material saturated with oil. The time of the two engines was: Kanawha engine, 16 seconds; city chemical engine. 29 seconds. Chemical used—Kanawha, 35 gal.; city chemical. 70 gal. The Kanawha engine was operated by compressed air.
