Greater New York Fire News. Since the beginning of the present year Greater New York has suffered considerably from what may be called medium-sized fires, not of the conflagration order, but still causing, each of them, considerable loss. Brooklyn has suffered considerably; the latest and worst was at Williamsburg, and was briefly noticed last week. It was disastrous, inasmuch as, in addition to destroying over $200,000 worth of property, it cost the life of Deputy Chief Michael Graham and possibly fatal injuries to Michael Maloney, another fireman, and serious injuries to three more. As was told last week, the blaze was in the Pratt oil works-a subsidiary of the Standard Oil com pany, at North Twelfth s1rce~ and the East River, Willianisburg. It broke out in a shed, in which were packed thousands of 5-gal. tanks of naphtha, gasoline and refined petroleum, and these kept exploding all round the firemen.…
