No Scarcity of Water at Middletown. Notwithstanding the exceptional drought during last year, Middletown, N. Y„ experienced no ill effects, owing to the quantity of water stored— 434,000,000 gal.—which admitted of its use for all purposes, without any undue restrictions. More construction in the way of laying mains and making extensions has been done than in several years. It consisted of laying 5,910 ft. of newmain, and the taking out of 3.192 ft. of 6-in. and 8-in. pine and replacing it with 12-in. The total cost was $9,697.54, of which $7,704.92 w-as taken from the receipts of the current year. The department has also made a final settlement with the mill owners to acquire the right to take water from the Big Shawangunk kill, and has likewise taken up, four years ahead of time, the deed under which the farm at Monhagen reservoir was purchased, and made final settlement and…
