Appointment of Fire Marshal J. H. Middlekauff. A correspondent of Hagerstown, Md., reports the unanimous re-election of Fire Marshal John H. Middlekauff, who has been an active member of the local fire department for fifty years and entertains as lively an interest in its operations today as he did when he first entered the fire service. In bis speech of thanks for his re-election, Chief Middlekauff alluded to the fact that the different organised fire companies of the city through their own efforts raised the funds and provided a good share of the present equipment. One company (the First hose) owns its entire outfit—a fine one—excepting the hose. Four of the five companies own the halls they occupy, at an estimated realty value of $100,000.
