The Fire Department of Paducah. At Paducah, Ky., the fire department, of which James J. Wood is chief, has been established 21 years as a paid organisation, and Chief Wood has held his position at its head for thirteen years. In addition to looking after the fire protection proper of the city, the department is also charged with the inspection of the buildings in the city and its electric lighting. The latter is under the immediate care of W . J. MacPherson as electrical inspector. During 1908 the depart ment answered 146 alarms of tire, of which five were false. The losses and insurances were as follows: On buildings, $25,455, out of a total insurance of $146,450; losS on contents, $24,235 out of a total insurance of $150,700; total loss on buildings not insured, $3,457.65; on contents not insured, $3,100.10; on total loss on other than buildings.
