New Britain Fire Department. New Britain, Conn., has had a fire department for thirty years, which has grown with the city’s growth and, if Chief R. M. Dame has his own way, will grow still more in equipment and efficiency. During the past year the only addition to the equipment was a 50-ft. truss-ladder, to replace the old one, which had become unsafe; the addition of 500 ft. of hose and the purchase of three Deluge sets and a horse. The city, however, during the past ten years has been rapidly growing away from the fire department, for which reason additional protection is needed, not only for the residential district, but, also, for the many new and enlarged factories that have sprung up.
