ELYRIA BUSINESS BLOCK DESTROYED Specially written for Fire and Water Engineering. An early morning fire at Elyria, Ohio, destroyed the Elyria block, a 5-story, brick, business building; the American theatre and two frame livery stables, besides damaging the hotel Andwur and several adjoining buildings, causing a loss of over $151,000, with an insurance on the buildings of $7,270; on the contents, of $5,630. The scene of the fire was in the very heart of the city’s business section and was bounded on the north by Broad street, on the north side of which, although that street is 100 ft. wide, plate glass windows were broken bv the heat. Immediately on the cast was a 10-ft. alley, which separated the Elyria block from the Andwur hotel, a 4-story, brick building, with a slate roof. To the south was a 20-ft. alley.
