The leading civic organisations of Greater New York are forming a committee, which will urge action on the part of the city government towards finding some way of preventing future water-waste in the city and the Croton watershed at the present enormous rate. Chief Engineer Chandler Worthington, of the department of finance, has filed a report recommending the issue of corporate stock for $950,000 for the extension of high-pressure service to the Gowanus and Bay Ridge sections—South Brooklyn, where are great shipping and manufacturing interests valued at millions of dollars. Deputy Commissioner Cozier states that the present system of pumping stations is adequate to take care of the new territory and much more, so that it will not be necessary to extend the high-pressure system by building new ones.
