Greater New York Fire News. Except for two rather large fires, one in Harlem, where the loss was heavy, and one in a 6-story building at Spring street and West Broadway, Manhattan, this week has been a quiet one. The West Broadway fire was chiefly remarkable for the narrow escape of six firemen, who were on the fire escapes at the fourth floor throwing a stream into the building, which, being a paper box factory, was full of smoke and flame. The high-pressure tower No. 1 was run in front of the place and the nozzle elevated to the fourth floor. The men in charge of the tower did not see the six men on the tire escap and turned on the stream. The force was so great that the firemen were nearly swept off into the burning building.
