American La France Tower at Knoxville. Knoxville, Tenn., has just put in service the second water tower in that State, Memphis being the leader in this respect. It was purchased of the American-La France Fire Engine company and has just been tested in the presence of a representative of that company. It is what is known as the improved “Hale” tower and numerically is No. 1, being the first ever built. It can be hoisted in fifteen seconds, and all that is necessary for the hoisting is to press a lever with the foot. It can lie raised to a heighth of 50 ft. and is capable of tossing a sturdy stream some 150 additional feet, and that will be ample for anything in Knoxville, or most any other city.
