Maine Forest Fires. The Maine Central Railroad company is voluntarily using oil burners on its Rumford Falls and Somerset divisions which will do much to prevent forest fires in those sections. A Maine report states: “It is hard to estimate the actual amount of good that has been done by the Maine forest fire stations in the past few years, but it is safe to say that since they were introduced they have saved a great many thousands of dollars for the timberland owners. Located on a mountain, usually, they command a wide view of the surrounding forests, and being connected with nearby towns by the means of the telephone, the watchman is able to send out an alarm the minute he discovers a fire. Then it is the work of the fire warden or his deputy to get a crew of men to the scene of the fire, extinguishing…
