LATEST FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEMS Baltimore, Md., has contracted for a new $22,500 enginehouse. Atlantic, Ia., has added a splendid new hose wagon to its equipment. A $7,000 fire in Brockton, Mass., was caused by spontaneous combustion. A fire kindled by incendiaries destroyed 47 houses in Portsmouth, Va. The Warsaw, Ill., fire department is arranging for a tournament this fall. Danville, Ill., has added five new alarm boxes and a life-saving net to its equipment. Work will focn begin on the $500,000 high-pressure fire main system for Baltimore, Md. The Valley Firemen’s association will hold a meeting in Waverly, N. Y., early in September. The San Diego, Cal., fire department will scon receive two Nott engines and one Seagrave truck. The number of fires in New York City in 1908 was 13,089, with an estimated loss of $9,201,078.
