Knoxville Fire Department Much Improved. Effective as of July 1, a new schedule of fire insurance rates for the city of Knoxville was recently announced, whereby there will be approximately a reduction of 20 per cent, in the insurance rates that have been paid heretofore. From the same date. Knoxville will be rated as a city of the third class rather than of the fourth. This action follows the betterment that has affected in the fire department of the city. The inspectors have made a thorough study of the protective needs of the city and their recommendations are being followed. So convinced of the good intentions of the city authorities are the insurance people that the exception has been made in favor of Knoxville of granting the concessions in insurance rates before the improvements in the fire department were all completed.
