Orphan Asylum at Far Rockaway Burned. A distressing fire in that seven children were burned to death was the one which totally de stroyed the St. Malachy Orphans Home, at Rockaway Park, on the night of August 80. The fire evidently originated in the laundry, and had good headway when discovered. The home was in charge of the Sister St. Ambrose, and had it not been for the efficiency of this woman and those associated with her, many more might have perished. The seven who were lost must have been overcome at the outset as they were sleeping directly over where Ihe fire originated. They were hoys of from three to five years old. The buildings were all of wood. Recognizing the inflammable nature of the home, fire escapes cf considerable more than ordinary width and accessibility were provided.
