To Investigate Chicago Expenditures. A special committee of eleven has just been appointed by Mayor Busse, of Chicago, to investigate the municipal expenditures of that city. The work of the committee is planned to be comprehensive and to investigate all departments. The make-up of the committee is largely of business men, but is headed by Prof. Merriam, of Chicago University. The engineering profession has a representative in John W. Alward. In the Allegheny county courts Mrs. Mary Gosser, widow of the late D. H. Gosser, of Avalon borough has entered suit against the Ohio Valley ater company to secure damages in the sum of 25,000 for the death of her husband, which occurred on February 2 last from typhoid fever. The charge is made that the water company furnished impure water to the Gosser home, and In drinking the water Mr. Gosser took fever, resulting in his death. The case…
