Automobile Engine Tested at Trenton. There was a representative gathering of New Jersey fire chiefs gathered at Trenton recently on the occasion of the test of the new automobile fire engine which was put through by Chief Allen. The auto was lined up with steamer No. 1 and the test was of the comparative order. The test was the first practical one made and was for the purpose of gaining a comparison of the two types of fire apparatus. The engines were placed alongside of the plug at the corner of East Hanover and Stockton Streets, where they were each supplied with the same quantity of water. The first test was the pumping of a stream through fifty feet of hose with an inch and a quarter nozzle. The engines did not vary two feet in the test.
