New Marine Fire District in Boston. At Boston the new marine fire district, for which steamship interests and property owners along the water front generally have been asking went into effect during the forenoon of October 1. With the establishment of this new fire district Boston takes its rightful place beside New York, Buffalo and Chicago, in the matter of safeguarding its valuable waterfront property, which has suffered repeatedly from the worst fires in the city. For over a decade the establishment of a regular lire district along the waterfront had been broached, but nothing was done until the great fire occurred at the Grand Junction docks in East Boston in the summer of 1908. The great loss aroused the city government to appropriate enough money for an additional fireboat, which was the tirst step to the adequate protection of the marine district.
