Meterage. Greenfield, Ia., proposes to adopt the meterage system. Public sentiment at Swampscott, Mass., is favorable to the present plan of metering the water supply as economical for the town and for the citizens. Woonsocket, R. I., may have amended water rates after January 1, 1910, the board of aidermen, at a recent meeting, having adopted a resolution instructing the water commissioners to charge not less than 15 cents per 1,000 gallons after that date. The action of the city council board of equalization of water rates of Salt Lake City, in making abatements of $4,285 at its last annual meeting, is likely to result in a deficit in water funds which the city will have to make up from other sources. A reduction in water rates to small consumers in the city of Topeka, Kan., to the extent of 10 per cent., is looked for within a year. No…
