The Fire Department of Knoxville. The city of Knoxville, Tenn., has expended over $70,000 in improving its fire department. The recent purchase of the Knoxville water plant will enable the city to make further progress in the betterment of its fire department in increased pressure and more plugs, thus adding to the fire protection. The chief of the department, S. B. Boyd, who is popularly known to the fire chiefs of the country, has been in charge since January, 1900. Chief Boyd took a course in the New York training school for firemen, which has been of great value to him in the discipline of his men.
