Meterage. With the beginning of the new year, consumers of metered water in Houston, Tex., will have their water rate cut in half, the price being reduced from 30 cents to 15 cents per 1,000 gallons. At present, there are 7,400 consumers in Houston who are supplied with water at a flat rate. They will not be affected by the reduction. The installation of meters is credited by the officials with the reduction of the water consumption from 13,000,000 to 9,000,000 gallons per day. The city installs the meters for a monthly rental or the consumer can buy his own meter. The Rochester State Hospital, near Rochester, N. Y., owing to a break down in its pumps, is supplied with water by the city.
