Webb Engine at Hull. A press dispatch from Hull, Mass., of January 5 says: A record breaking run of the new motor fire engine was all that saved Waveland from destruction. Three cottages owned by George Hatchard and valued at $9,000 were burned to their foundations, but the 100 surrounding them, which seemed certain of a like fate, were saved by the new machine. The wind was blowing at a very high rate and sparks were carried into the surrounding groups of buildings. A large number of citizens turned out despite the terrible cold, and worked until the town was safe. None of the houses had been occupied. Two were just finished and the third was nearly completed.
