CORRESPONDENCE The Los Angeles Contract. To the EDITOR: In your issue of December 29, is a letter front Chief Walter Lips, of Los Angeles, Cal., as to the recent fire alarm award in that city. There arc some details of how the deal was carried through; among others mention of the fact that he and his fire alarm superintendent were practically ignored although protesting vigorously against the award. Unfortunately, Los Angeles is not the only Pacific Coast city where those who are to use lire apparatus and he responsible for its efficiency, have been allowed no voice whatever in its purchase. Other localities arc afflicated with would-be fire department experts, wise in their own conceit and swayed by nearly every consideration except those which come from real knowledge and experience.
