Notes on Filtration. The Knoxville, Tenn., water commission seeks permission from the council to make improvements in the filler plant and has under consideration plans and estimates for enlarging its sedimentation basin. By enlarging the sedimentation basin, it is claimed, the capacity of the filter plant can lie doubled. The act authorizing the city to purchase the water plant requires that the commission, in expenditures amounting to $1,000 or more, must submit the same to the city council for ratification. Ellwood City, Pa., Water Company has recently completed and put in operation a new filtration plant. Chief Engineer Kienle, of the water department of Wilmington, Del., recently reported to the water commissioners that the entire city is now supplied with filtered water.
