FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS The estimated losses by fire in the United States and Canada, reported for the week ending March 20th, amounted to $3,717,142. Springfield, Mass., may erect a separate building for its fire alarm signal system. The fire loss of the United States and Canada for February is estimated at $15,489,350. Harry W. Ricker has been elected chief of the Fire Department of Old Orchard, Me. Cheyenne, Wyo., has adopted a paid department and the volunteer firemen have been mustered out. A remodeled engine for the Child Steamer Company, of Lansing, N. Y., has been placed on duty. A scheme for the establishment of a fire department pension fund has been started in Oklahoma City. The new Waterous gasoline engine of Penington, N. J., was tested and proved thoroughly satisfactory. The fire losses in the United States and Canada reported for the week ending March 14 amounted to $3,016,442.…
