Refuse to Reduce Water Rates.

Issue 9 and Volume 48.

Refuse to Reduce Water Rates. The North Springfield Water Company recently made answer in the court at Norristown, Pa., to the bill in equity filed by prominent residents of the borough of Conshohocken to compel a reduction in the price of water. The company points out that it has a right to charge at the rate it is now doing and contends that the consumers have no right to demand, nor the court jurisdiction to grant a reduction, as requested by the citizens. It is pointed out by the terms of the company’s charter, the citizens have the right to purchase the rights of the company—the Conshohocken Gas and Water Company—within 20 years, but since that time has expired they must pay the rates.
