FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS A new Gamewell fire alarm systetm is being installed in Westerly, R. I. An ordinance before the general council of Louisville, Ky., provides for increasing the number of firemen by nineteen. The Ahrens Fire Engine Company, of Cincinnati, Ohio, has reincorporated under the name of the Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company. The town council of Cedar Falls, Ia., is planning the establishment of a paid fire department to take the place of the present volunteer system. The forty-first annual meeting of the Fire Underwriters’ Association of the Northwest will be held in the Hotel La Salle, Chicago, October 5 and 6. Two stations, manned by recruits from the St. Paul and Minneapolis departments, have been temporarily established on the Minnesota state fair grounds. Investigation of a recent fire in Louisville, Ky., determined the cause to be spontaneous combustion of corn, which had not been thoroughly dried before grinding.…
