Danger in Crude Oil. A new and serious hazard has been introduced in Iowa and other western states by the pushing of devices for the use of crude oil and other similar fuel oils for heating and cooking purposes. The demonstrators guarantee to save 50 per cent, of the fuel hills, claiming that their devices use the waste products of crude oil after the gasolene and kerosene have been removed. Several fires and serious accidents have already resulted from the introduction of this hazard. None of these devices meets the requirements of safety prescribed by the underwriters’ rules, which are quite as much in the interest of the public as of the insurance companies. Installations on cooking and heating stoves are frequently crude. A dangerously large quantity of fuel oil is kept on the premises, usually in violation of the insurance policy contract.
