LATEST FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEMS The estimated losses by fire in the United States and Canada, reported for the week ending Feb. 13, amounted to $2,114,831. Luther Patton has been elected chief of Corona, Cal., department. The new Waterous gasoline fire engine for Stillwater. Minn., has arrived. A new chemical engine has been added to the Onida, S. Dak., fire department equipment. The recent dynamite explosion in Communipaw cost the plate glass underwriters $35,000. Detroit, Mich., has decided on a high pressure water system to protect the factory district in that city. Chief Thomas O’Connor, of the New Orleans fire department, has recovered from his illness so as to lx* out. The sixth annual convention of the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association will be held at Covington on May 26-28. At Huneston, la., Lb E.
