Bridgeford Made Chief at Albany. William W. Bridgeford. first assistant chief of the Fire Department at Albany, N. Y., has been appointed chief, to succeed the late Chief Michael E. Higgins. For the past eight months Chief Bridgeford has been the acting head of the department. owing to his superior’s illness. Deputy Commissioner William J. Rice nominated Assistant Chief Bridgeford for the position, his order being as follows: “Pursuant to the requirements of the non-competitive class of the civil service rules, I announce the nomination for the non-competitive examination for the position of chief engineer of the Bureau of Fire, of William W. Bridgeford, permanent assistant engineer, who has been acting as chief engineer for the past eight months, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Michael E.
