FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING The Missouri Fire Prevention Association has been investigating the use of fuel oil in Springfield, Mo., and announces that it has failed to find a single fuel oil burner in satisfactory operation. To safeguard the use of fuel oil and to call attention to the desirability of notice as to its use, the use of the permit adopted by the Kansas field men is recommended. According to the annual report of the New York Fire Department, just issued by Commissioner Waldo, there are over one hundred firemen now detailed to theaters, which require their services in order to insure public safety. If the theaters were required to pay for these men at the rate of one day’s pay for firemen, first grade, for eight hours’ work, or any fraction thereof, the city would obtain a revenue of over one hundred thousand dollars annually, which could be…
