Newton Firemen Storm High Hill. The committee on public works of the Newton, Mass., board of aldermen took a novel means one night recently of testing the proposition of Mayor Charles E. Hatfield that a new fire station should be built on top of West Newton hill. Under conditions most disadvantageous to the firemen, they rang in a false alarm. And when the firemen, on truck and engine, arrived on the scene in almost incredible time, the city fathers shrugged their shoulders and chuckled—and the chuckle did not sound good for the mayor s proposition. The rules of the Newton Fire Department require all members, save the night watch, to he in bed at 9.30 o’clock.
