Greenville Fire Department Report. Riley J. Rowley resigned as chief of the fire department of Greenville, S. C., on January 1 and R. J. Legon, assistant chief, was elected chief. Chief Rowley had been at the head of the Greenville lire department ever since the paid department went into effect and it was with universal regret that his resignation was handed to the Board of Fire Commissioners. The paid department has been in force since January 1, 1902. The City Council authorized the Board of Fire Commissioners to contract with the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company to install their system in Greenville at once. This matter the department and the Board of hire Commissioners have been working for for the past eight years.
