Good Fire Service at Battle Creek Few people would think that a city of the size of Battle Creek, Mich., with a population of 25,000 possesses a fire department that, may be safely said, has not an equal, at least in its own state. The fire stations, illustrated herewith, show the high class of buildings provided for the men and apparatus Their equipment has also been considered with a view to produce the host fire-fighting efficiency. Chief W. P. Weeks hits just been reappointed for the twentieth time. He has held the position, it is said, longer than any other chief in the state, having been in the service over thirty-one years. Chief Weeks rose from the lowest rank to head of the department in twelve years. He witnessed the evolution of apparatus from the hand-drawn to horse-propelled machines and he will soon have an auto for an auxiliary squad.…
