Georgia Firemen in Convention. The fifth annual convention and tournament of the Georgia State Firemen’s Association held in Rome last week was well attended. The various sessions were presided over by President Thomas Ballantyne, of Savannah. Mayor Flancock gave the firemen a cordial welcome, greeting them on behalf of the city, which he said had the best fire department and the best chief in Georgia. The response to the address of welcome was delivered by Chief F. G. Reynolds, of Augusta. The association is interested in legislation with a view to reducing the fire waste in Georgia, also in legislation looking towards state aid for protection of firemen. It is expected that bills will be drawn along these lines in time to be introduced at the coining session of the Georgia legislature.
