New Fire Alarm at Springfield. The new system of fire alarms, which has been in operation since the firemen of Springneld, Mass., moved into their new headquarters has been a source of much interest to the public, especially since the method of blowing the alarm differs somewhat from the method in vogue while the old system was in operation. The operation of the new system in case of fire is something like this: As soon as a box is pulled for a fire, the number is struck on a bell in the operating room, the same number is perforated on a strip of paper in one of the registers in the station, and two red lights are shown on the operating board, showing the circuit from which the alarm is being received.
