FIRE ENGINEERING. Edward F. Croker, Jr., a son of the late head of the New York fire department, told Secretary Willis of the fire department, that he expects some day to be the head of the department. He was appointed last week an assistant fire marshal for the borough of Manhattan. The appointment is a temporary one. there being no civil service list from which to select a man just now. The salary is $1,200 a year. Mr. Croker is 22 years old. and lives at 707 Sterling place, Brooklyn. He said that he is ambitious to follow in his father s footsteps, and will try to go through the fire department. He cannot commence in his present position and will have to formally join the department afterward. He has been a special agent for the New York Edison Company.
