Meterage. Since the water system improvement at Kalamazoo, Mich., the meter department has been kept busy installing meters throughout the city. Geneva, N. Y., with 11,000 population has 2,803 meters in use, of which 1,078 are of the Trident pattern. The average rate per 1,000 gallons is $10.37. Any owner of a water meter can determine its accuracy for himself, by making a wotxlen box, 12 inches wide, 12 long and 12 high, inside measurement. Place this box—which will hold one cubic foot of water—under the faucet for filling. If the meter is correct the needle on the dial marked “one foot” will revolve once around while the box is being filled with water. If much difference is noticed, the box may be filled any number of times (say ten), and the difference noted, from which the percentage of variation can easily be computed.
