Fire Protection at Saginaw. The Saginaw, Mich., Daily News, of a recent date, said: “The board of water commissioners puts the responsibility where it belongs for a considerable measure of Saginaw’s fire menace when it criticises the hoard of estimates for disallowing the request for two fire engines last spring. Every effort was made to impress upon the hoard of estimate at that time the urgent necessity for these engines. The fire chief presented conclusive reasons why they should be purchased immediately in order to strengthen the city’s notoriously meagre protection against fire. But extravagant administration of the city, which compelled a high tax levy to meet ordinary municipal expenses, caused the estimators to shut their ears to a loud sounding peril.
