Boston Working on High-Pressure System. The new high pressure system of water supply for the fire protection of Boston is one of the greatest works undertaken by that city in recent years. That difficulties are ahead may be inferred from the fact that many of the streets are already so undermined with conduits and subways as to be absolutely impassable below the surface. Vet the new pipes must be run from the huge pumping station on the Charles River bank, and cover the entire business district, so that 15,000 gallons of water may be concentrated on any one block and 10,000 gallons on any one building.
