New Watesworks for South Bend. Plans for improvements costing $200,000 to the city waterworks system have been accepted by the board of public works of South Bend, Ind. S. Burns, of a Kansas City engineering firm, received final instructions from the board and plans and specifications for the improvements will be prepared at once. The improvement plans mean practically the rebuilding of the waterworks system. Among the changes are the erection of a new power house at a cost of $23,000, the installation of two 5,000,000 gallon pumps, storage reservoir costing $55,000 and the purchase of several other pumps. Minor items will increase the total cost to approximately $200,000. An arrangement decided upon will allow the improvements to be made one at a time. Bids for the two 5,000,000 gallon pumps and two 5,000.000 low lift pumps will be the first to be advertised, as the apparatus must be built…
