Salt Lake City Fire Department One of the most efficient fire departments west of the Rocky Mountains is that of Salt Lake City. Utah, of which William H. Bywater is the head. Chief Bywater had held this position for several years prior to August, 1905, when he was succeeded by Chief Vail and Chief Janies Devine. In 1908 William H. Glore, formerly with the waterworks at Covington, Ky., was placed at the head of the department, and held the position until about a year ago, when Bywater was again made chief. During his absence from the department Chief Bywater did not relinquish his interest in the art of fire-fighting, and when he again took up the work he was well qualified to perform his duties.
