To Complete the Panhandle System The Panhandle is preparing to complete its water plant west of Hartford City, Ind., by laying 3,000 feet of 8-inch pipe, connecting three new wells with the reservoir. Recent tests of the new wells show a capacity of 178 gallons each per minute. The water-softening plant, by means of which the hard lime water, impregnated with iron, is made as soft as rainwater before it enters the boilers of locomotives, has a capacity of 225,000 gallons a day. The completion of the water system, with a $200,000 coaling dock, deprives the Hartford City waterworks of one of its best customers.
