Troublesome Fire Well Stopped in Cleveland Chief Edward T. Rose, of the fire department at Wheeling, W. Va., thus des-uDes a recent fire which occurred in that city: “You will find inclosed views of a fire we had on the 12th of October on the hillside in this city. As we could not get within two blocks of the fire with our horse-drawn apparatus, we unloaded the wagons after going as near the burning buildings as we could. We hitched the horses to the end of the hose and dragged it up the steep hill. In this way we laid 5,000 feet from our engines, which were stationed at the foot of the hill on the level. Three engines worked for three hours through six lines of hose with a stiff wind blowing all the time, but we stopped the fire with only $2,500 loss. The row of houses shown,…
