Fire Department Doings The estimated losses by fire in the United States and Canada, reported for the week ending December 2, amounted to $3,889,000. Dr. W. C. Beam, of Hillside, Ill., was burned to death in a small stable fire. Crossed electric wires caused the burning of the Goldstein garage, Philadelphia. Appropriations have been made for a new $10,000 engine house for Rockville, Mass. Gasoline explosions, due to the careless use of gasoline stoves, are becoming by far too common. During a stable fire in South Wilmington, Del., one man lost his life and a fireman was overcome by smoke. For the future the city council of McKeesport, Pa., will regulate the distribution of the firemen’s relief fund.
