Port Arthur Fire Department Report Chief R. R. McLeody, of the fire department at Port Arthur. Tex., furnishes the following report of fires for the past year: Number of alarms. 123; loss on buildings, $46,486.55; loss on contents, $35,233.50: total, $81,720.05. Insurance on buildings. $407,300; insurance on contents $253,555: total insurance, $860,855. Number of feet of hose used, 42,600; number of branches 98; number of feet of ladders 2,204: chemical used. 3,369 gallons: water used for 37 hours: fire engine used for fire purposes 14 hours; average hydrant pressure, 90 pounds: 16 square miles to protect from fire with one fire station, three teams and one spare horse, one chief’s motor ear. 16 permanent men and chief. Fire alarm system. 50 boxes, four circuits (Gamewell) and municipal telephone. One new fire station under construction and one piece of motor hose and chemical on order (Seagrave).
