Fatal Fire in an Ottawa Convent The Roman Catholic convent of the Scholastica, connected with the schools of the Oplate Fathers in Ottawa. Ont., was burned recently by a midnight fire. The community consisted of 12 sisters, all of whom, with one exception, found their way to safety by means of the fire escape. The one who lost her life was the Sister Superior, who had her own cell on the same floor, but completely separated from the others. When the alarm was raised she also came out upon the corridor and was making for the fire escape when just before she reached it she was heard to say: “I’m fainting.” In a minute afterwards she had fainted, and by that time the room was so completely filled with dense smoke that their fallen superior’s body could not be found and it was all the sisters could do to reach…
